Meet Mambo

Meet Mambo, an African penguin with a big personality! His species is endangered with populations declining. Mambo was born in January 2020 and has two siblings, Hiccup and Little Happy. He is feisty and will bite if he doesn’t like you. I was fortunate enough to develop a great relationship with Mambo where he would chase light reflections off my phone and allow me to pet him.

Mambo currently lives at SAPREC. SAPREC is a seabird and penguin rehabilitation center in Mossel Bay, South Africa that does amazing things to help protect the endangered African Penguin and other seabirds. I had the amazing opportunity to connect with Mambo while volunteering with The Shark Research Unit.
